On 14 December 2018, the boss of a nightclub as South Bridge Road was found guilty and jailed for threatening dancers to have sex with patrons.
Walking the journey of recovery with survivors, HAGAR is determined to do whatever it takes, for as long as it takes, to restore a broken life. In partnership with the Singapore government, HAGAR helped the victims during their time in Singapore, providing them with trauma care and counselling.
Through the Ministry of Manpower’s Temporary Job Scheme, the women were able to work while assisting with the legal proceedings as witnesses. Each time the court hearing took place, HAGAR supported the witness by being present and giving them emotional strength as they had to recount the vivid details of their abuse.
With the sentencing concluded, each of the witnesses have found relief from this dark episode. HAGAR continues to keep in touch with them as they have returned to their home countries.
