HAGAR Accelerates Justice for Trafficking Victims in Thailand

Serving vulnerable women and children who have suffered extreme human rights abuses, HAGAR’s work began in Cambodia in 1994 and has since grown to care for this same community in Vietnam, Afghanistan, Myanmar, Singapore and the Solomon Islands.

In April 2023, the Hagar family expanded our operations to Thailand through a unique non-profit merger, uniting with LIFT International to further our mission to fight human trafficking, slavery and abuse.

LIFT excels in providing legal aid and support for victims to seek justice and legal recourse. This contributes towards prevention through prosecution and strengthening of legal systems to ensure adequate victim protection and identification of perpetrators.

Their work beautifully complements Hagar’s mission and their expertise in the legal area would strengthen our support for survivors in a whole new way, enabling them to seek justice which helps them on their recovery journey.

This also means that HAGAR is now actively working in Thailand to dismantle the structures of human trafficking in a country where people are extremely vulnerable to exploitation for forced labour and sexual exploitation. Notoriously corrupt, human trafficking is perpetuated by official complicity who seem to be able to commit crime with impunity. Migration for work is high as there are insufficient job opportunities, which greatly increases the vulnerability of those looking for work. Psycho-social care and support for human trafficking victims are insufficient as staff lack adequate training.

We are grateful for this opportunity to lend our skills and make a difference in the lives of the community in Thailand. Human trafficking and human rights abuse cannot be tolerated and at HAGAR, we will do whatever it takes, for as long as it takes, to restore a broken life.
