Goldman Sachs Singapore

Sponsored and organised by Goldman Sachs under their Community Teamworks Programme in Singapore, the women in our care got to enjoy a day of fun and laughter at the bowling centre on a cheery Friday on June 10. Starting with a simple meal of chicken rice, it took a while for the staff of Goldman Sachs and the girls to warm up to each other. Little did we know that the low hushed silence during lunch would shortly be overturned.

As the groups got into their lanes and started putting on proper bowling shoes, everyone looked inquisitively at the bowling balls, wondering how to choose and the difference between each. The Goldman team helped to pick out some lighter ones for the women and they were tasked to think of a group name.

Everyone was completely bowled over by the girls’ excitement and enthusiasm when the game started. Loud cheers erupted everywhere and coupled with the thunderous slams on the lanes, the bowling alley was filled with screams and exclamations. By the second game, the girls were exchanging high fives with the folks from Goldman Sachs. Little by little, the girls became more comfortable and started interacting with them, laughing with them, and even encouraging them when they didn’t play as well.

By the end of three games, everyone’s spirits remained high and they were comfortably snapping pictures together. The girls were extremely excited to hear the results of the group scores and their individual scores. There was no doubt that they were satisfied and pleased with their performance and while there was only one champion, everyone was definitely a winner with their best effort and exuberant smiles.

The alley was transformed and so were the girls in the few hours where they could get away from their problems and immerse themselves fully into the activity and let loose amidst the rolling good time.

Thank you, Goldman Sachs Singapore for bringing a simple game of bowling that resulted in their laughter that filled the air. We are grateful for your partnership and look forward to working together ahead.

You too can be a part of their journey to restoration. If your company is looking for a meaningful community service project and you are interested to find out more about how you can assist survivors of trafficking and abuse, please drop as a message and we will get back to you.
