Thomson Reuters lunch for a cause

On 21 September 2015, Thomson Reuters Singapore in keeping with their commitment to stop human trafficking, organised a Bake Sale for Hagar Singapore to raise funds and awareness for women and children survivors of trafficking.

300 staff members of Thomson Reuters rallied together to contribute to this fundraising effort by grabbing special lunch treats ranging from homemade pizzas, hot dog buns, quiche, cupcakes and brownies, including a line of Chinese delights like nonya kueh, carrot and yam cakes and more – all of which were generously hand-baked and sponsored by Hagar volunteers and friends.

Isabelle Sharma, key volunteer of Hagar Singapore was thankful for the opportunity to coordinate this sale with Thomson Reuters, and described the experience as “hard work but rewarding”. It was heartening to see how people from all walks of life came together to contribute to the event in many different ways. And we are grateful to the team of organisers from Thomson Reuters that made it all possible.

A total of $3,500 were raised in just 2 hours which when combined with the Thomson Reuters payroll matching programme, yielded a whopping $7,000. These monies raised would go directly to the recovery and reintegration programmes to support those under Hagar’s care who have survived tremendous exploitation and abuse.

Hagar Singapore would like to thank all sponsors and Thomson Reuters for their generous contribution in making the event successful. Some employees also signed up to sponsor on a regular basis, trafficked survivors in their journey to find healing and restoration.

In this coming December, the company will also be organising a Christmas party to bring some festive cheer to the rescued girls that Hagar is caring for in Singapore.

If your company would like to get involved with Hagar in fundraising projects for survivors of trafficking, please drop us a message and we will get in touch with you.
